School History

Kenmore Elementary has been the pride of the community since it opened its doors in September of 1955. But this school building was a dream years before and continues to serve the community more than 70 years later. Take a look at some of the milestones that went into making our school a reality.

Kenmore Elementary Early Historical Facts

  • First Principal: Lee Blakely
  • Student enrollment in 1955: 642 students
  • Cost to build: $502,197.38

 

 

Early Milestones

  • October 1948: Surveys and estimates made on sites
  • July 1950 and 1951: Acquired 20 acres of land
  • July 1953: Voters approved bonds to build the school
  • December 1954: Ground broken
  • September 1955: Building opened its doors to students on Sept. 7, 1955

 

Campus Artwork

Student artwork has played an important role in the school, and the slideshow below is available to memorialize and celebrate the artwork that has been removed from the building to allow for site maintenance and improvements.
