Principal's Message

Dear KE Families,

June has arrived once again, and I find myself reflecting on my fifth year as your principal. It has been a year filled with new experiences, from navigating the loss of a beloved teacher to managing construction projects and supporting our dedicated staff and students. Personally, I had also faced the loss of a good friend.

Through it all, our students have thrived, and our community has shared countless joyful moments, as you will see in the pages of the yearbook.

Thank you for your continued support to our school, for contributing in many ways—volunteering, donating, spoiling us with treats… to name a few and most of all thank you for trusting us with your little people.

I look forward to returning to this important work again in September! 😉

Have a restful and amazing summer!

Ms. George-Shapiro
Principal

Monthly focusOur Monthly Focus

Dear Families,

This year we are using PurposeFull People, a program that teaches skills to help students be successful in school and in life. We are wrapping up our latest focus, Courage, and moving forward with our last focus on the year, Creativity.

Creativity Overview

We are excited to focus on Creativity this month! One way to think about Creativity is “using your imagination to create something new or solve a problem.” Opportunities to be Creative are all around us! How can you find ways to be Creative as a family this month?

In the classrooms

For the following month each classroom will be focusing on different aspects of what it means to show Creativity. Below you will find the overall focus for each grade.

Kindergarten: Identifying their emotions.
First Grade: Emotion awareness.
Second Grade: Naming their emotions and using strategies to regulate those emotions.
Third Grade: Sharing their emotions and expressing what they need.
Fourth/Fifth Grade: Positive self-talk and stress-management.

Family Connections

Conversations Starters:

  1. Can you share or show what Creativity is?
  2. How can being Creative help you solve problems?

Activities:

-Get Creative with expressing your emotions through a game of emotion charades! Gather as a family and brainstorm some emotion words. Write them on slips of paper, then take turns choosing a slip of paper and acting out the emotion while other family members will guess the emotion that is being acted out. After each person’s turn, take a moment to talk about what we may need when experiencing these emotions.

  • Creativity is using your imagination to create something new or solve a problem. This challenge is about creating something new – together! Find a large cardboard box and unleash your Creativity as you work together to create something totally new. What can the box become? Perhaps it will be a spaceship, an ice cream shop, a fairy castle, or a race car. Use any craft supplies or scraps on hand and your imagination to turn an ordinary box into a new creation!
With Gratitude,
Samantha Nunes

 Tech         Summer Technology Update

Students will keep their devices this summer!:

  • Students currently in grades 2-5 will be keeping their assigned computing devices over the summer months to allow for continuous learning. Students and families are expected to take care of their assigned device by keeping it charged and in its bag when not in use. Students who are enrolled in summer learning programs are expected to bring their device to summer programs each day. If families need support using their device or troubleshooting technical issues, they should create a help ticket at http://go.nsd.org/studenttechhelp

Withdrawing students must turn in devices by last day of school.

  • Families who are withdrawing from Northshore are expected to return any technology devices assigned to their student, including computers, tablets, hotspots and all accessories such as bags and chargers. Our school will be collecting devices on or before your last day of school. Withdrawing students who do not return their devices and accessories will be issued a fine for replacement.

Families who wish not to keep a device over the summer need to complete this opt out form.

  • Families may not need or want to take their student’s device home over the summer. Families who wish to opt out of keeping their student’s assigned device will need to indicate that they are “opting out” by completing the form at https://go.nsd.org/optout . This form will help our staff to plan efficiently for sending devices home for summer learning. When students return to school in the Fall, any student who does not have an assigned device will be assigned one for school year learning.

Families in grades K-1 whose students need a device for summer learning need to complete this opt in form.

  • Families of students currently in grades K and 1 who wish to check out an iPad for summer learning need to indicate so by completing the form at http://go.nsd.org/techoptin. Students and families are expected to care for the device and use it only for learning purposes. The device must be returned to school on or before the first day of the 2025-26 school year. Device Protection Plan (DPP) can be purchased to protect the device from accidental damages. More information about DPP here.
